Laura Seeley is a multi-talented painter, author and illustrator. Her paintings have been on display and sold in galleries throughout California and New Orleans. She has written and illustrated numerous award-winning children’s books.
Laura graduated from RIT in Rochester, NY. With the design skills she learned in college and her innate passion to draw, Laura kept busy in her early career doing freelance illustration and logo design. She sensed something was missing and discovered it was writing. In September of 1984, she began writing the verses for what would eventually become her first book “The Book of Shadowboxes, A Story of the ABCs”. It was published and named Best Children’s Literature that year by The Council of Authors and Journalists. “The Magical Moonballs” followed two years later, and won the same award.
Cats are among the many themes Laura paints, but they have grown to become her star subjects. Laura’s cats have graced the Royal Canin supported San Diego Cat Fanciers’ Club poster, the cover of the International Cat Fanciers’ Association Yearbook, and they rode on the back of a life-sized baby elephant sculpture (created by Laura, along with a verse written by Laura) for Singapore’s Elephant Parade.
Laura resides in beautiful Dana Point, California where she lives to work. Her art is her passion, and at times her therapy. Laura’s images can be seen on many licensed products including ceramic tiles, apparel, fabrics, totes and giftware. Her own line of Picture Pendants (necklaces and charms), display her cat, dog and flower images. They are available in her studio/gallery.
